Counting Down the News this week: Small businesses could be the “pandemic’s biggest winners,” a nationwide worker shortage, the SBA’s work on “historic barriers” to loan access, and more.

Axios: Small business may end up being the “pandemic’s biggest winners,” according to a new study which found that “the number of entrepreneurs starting a business easily hit a record high in 2020.”

CNN Business: Many teenagers have their pick of jobs these days, thanks to a worker shortage across the US. 

The Wall Street Journal: The “tight” labor market in the US has returned the upper hand to American workers.

The Hill: The union push at Amazon’s Bessemer, AL warehouse may have been unsuccessful, but there are other groups renewing their dedication to unionizing Amazon.

Forbes: Now that the Paycheck Protection Program has ended, small businesses are forced to look for other sources of funding.

CNBC: Taking WFH to a whole new level – some workers bought vans and hit the road when offices started shutting down at the beginning of COVID-19. Some don’t want to come back now that they’re reopening.

Yahoo! News: The Small Business Administration (SBA) says they are working on fixing "historic barriers" to loan access.

Small Business Trends: A new survey from The Conference Board reports that “U.S. businesses are facing historic difficulty in finding qualified workers,” and “it is especially difficult for small businesses in the service industry.”

The Hill: Investment bank Morgan Stanley has become one of the first major US companies to announce it “will be barring employees who are not immunized against COVID-19 from entering its New York offices.”

CNBC: The CEO of Hyatt Hotels predicts that business travel is likely to “take hold in a more affirmative way in the fall.”
